Dana Point Intimate Wedding: Jenn & Sam

When your pledge sister from college tells you she’s having her wedding at the absolutely gorgeous Laguna Hills Courthouse, just down the street from Dana Point in Orange County, you get those plane tickets booked ASAP. How can you tell Jenn is my kind of bride? See below: TWO wedding jumpsuits, a bottle of Dom Perginon doing it’s own boudoir session with her grandmother’s vintage pearls, red cup toasts in the bridal suite, and a fifth of bourbon in place of a bouquet. This wedding was so, perfectly, characteristically, Jenn and Sam. From Pac-12 football references during the speeches, to pre-wedding Chik Fil A, I could never imagine her getting married any other way.

Dana Point in and of itself is an absolute dream. We posted up at the Marriott, which featured views of the bay and perfectly golden sunsets. Another bonus: saw about 350 dogs just during bridal portraits alone. We were only mildly distracted. Southern California, I just love you. Can’t wait to go back!

The Landing at Tyee Wedding: Hailey + Matt

Getting butterflies just thinking about this wedding all over again. After selecting the images for this blog, I’m thinking shit, I really should text Hailey and see if they want to hang out! You know those couples that are just so cool that you’re like uhhh can I join your marriage? That was Matt and Hailey to a T. Even their engagement session was stylishly fantastic! These two have been together for just about ever and you can see how excited they were to finally be making it official. Hailey and her bridesmaids got ready in a quirky lil Airbnb house in Queen Anne - how fun are her bridesmaid’s dresses? They’re two pieces!

Their ceremony and reception were hosted at the Landing at Tyee on Lake Union, formerly the Seattle Yacht Club. Their day was full of classic, elegant glamour. They opted to have their first look be walking down the aisle, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Matt’s dad was their officiant! After their formal pictures, Matt had to shuck and shoot a raw oyster at their raw oyster bar, and at their first dance, Hailey dipped Matt for their grand finale. Dancing overtook the whole group after dinner, and their friends from all over the country joined in the party. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two lovebirds.

The Orchard at Sunshine Hill Wedding: Alyssa + Daniel

I freakin love my family. I’m so lucky to be related to these awesome people. Alyssa is my cousin and we are almost exactly six months apart. When Daniel first showed up on the scene a few years ago, everyone was instantly like oh here we go! The second you’re in the same room as them, you can just feel their connection. They got married in September at The Orchard at Sunshine Hill near Chelalis, Washington. My extended family from Salt Lake City even flew in! If you scroll down, you can see a sneaking picture of my parents dancing during the reception. So much cuteness on this day my little heart can’t take it! I’m happy Daniel is officially in the family so there’s someone who cries as much as me… ;) Daniel and Alyssa are having a little baby girl named Gracie Jean this spring and I couldn’t be more excited!

Seattle Waterfront Wedding: Heather and Corey

Remember these two mermaids from last august? They got married in in Costa Rica last summer, but when they came home to Seattle they knew they needed to do something special with family and friends. Their Seattle reception was hosted at The Landing at Shilshole Bay and their family and friends from near and far were in attendance. Since their beachfront wedding was more casual, Heather wore an elegant beaded and headpiece for the Seattle reception.

Heather and Corey got ready at the Marriott in Downtown Seattle, and after a sunny first look near the ferry terminal at the waterfront, they headed to the Landing at Shishole Bay to meet friends and family. The Landing was filled with the most personal touches, including a slideshow of their Costa Rica wedding. Dinner was surf and turf, followed by toasts, cake, and of course, dancing. Heather switched from heels to glittering metallic vans, and she and Corey danced the night away.

Anacortes Garden Wedding: Paige + Tyler

Its true, I pretty much fall in love with all my couples, and these two were no exception. They are the sweetest, most fun, in love and downright COOL people. Ty wore a printed dog shirt to their engagement session! Paige has done a Ted Talk!! Their cat's name is NIPPLES. So yeah, they crack me up and they are a blast and a half. For their wedding, Paige never imagined wearing a ballgown, but once she popped one on, she couldn’t resist. On the absolute rainiest day in June, she was a perfect woodland princess in the middle of a torrential downpour.

Despite the rain, Paige and Ty were able to do their personal vows during their first look. This special moment in the forest, surrounded by rain, tall trees, and gorgeous flowers, was one of the most intimate moments I’ve seen in 5 years of doing weddings. Since it was raining cats and dogs, the ceremony was moved inside the rustic old barn, with a backdrop of white gauzy fabric shielding from the weather outside. A sweet receiving line, taco dinner, and dance party followed. Paige is an 80s music aficionado, and there was no shortage on their playlist. Overall, it was an exciting, personal, and celebratory day.

Mount Rainier Wedding: Hannah + Nick

In 3rd grade, there was only one other third grade girl in my class. She had read all the Harry Potters (that were out at the time), didn’t hesitate to stick her tongue out at rude boys, and was ridiculously poised for an 8 year old. Fast forward almost 20 years later, and here I am shooting her wedding at Crystal on Mount Rainier, watching her marry someone who’s probably almost as good at skiing as she is. We actually met when we were 5, and she was one of three Hannah’s in my 3rd grade class. One of the coolest parts about being from a small town is seeing someone go through life, circle back, and be just as joyful, fun-loving, and passionate as they were as a kid. Hannah just moved home after a stint teaching underprivileged kids in Baltimore, and will now be teaching in Tacoma. She’s pretty amazing.

Nick and Hannah met in college, and he was just as star struck as you may have expected, based on his vows. Both Hannah and Nick love to dance, which they showed off by doing a swing dance as their first dance. Hannah grew up ski racing, so Crystal Mountain was a natural choice for their big day. The blue mountain popped a against their palette of red and yellow, and they incorporated traditions from Hannah’s British background into their ceremony. A family friend sang a beautiful song as champagne was passed and the marriage license was signed, and a toast sealed the deal right after their first kiss.

Washington State is surrounded by so much natural beauty, and Crystal Mountain is one of the places that shows it off in all of its splendor. Hannah and Nick did their first look in the lush green forest after getting ready in the quicksilver lodge, then took the gondola up to the top of the mountain, where Mount Rainier made the perfect backdrop to their I-do’s. Of course, being on Rainier, a pre-ceremony Rainier beer toast was mandatory, and the vitamin R flowed free.

Crystal Mountain is the ultimate choice if you’re a skiing fan, nature lover, or just someone who likes to take in the view. If a mountain getaway is your vibe, it just doesn’t get any better.

The Edgewater House Wedding: Matt + Jordan

THIS. FREAKING. WEDDING. YOU. GUYS. You know that feeling before a big presentation at work, where you just want to pour your heart and soul into the project and have it go perfectly? Combine that with preparing for a huge, special family holiday. That’s how I feel before every single wedding I shoot. I truly want every little moment to go off without a hitch, from the lighting at the ceremony, to the details, to the last dance. Jordan and Matt are such a caring, sweet couple, and I was feeling all those feelings right before their wedding at the Edgewater House in Olalla, WA.

The Edgewater House is one of those venues where every other moment you just say “YESSS” to yourself. Both Jordan and Matt were able to get ready with their wedding party at the Edgewater House, because it provides suites for both groups. A gentle breeze blew through off the Puget Sound, keeping the July heat at bay. Jordan and Matt kept their guests entertained with lawn games, a photo booth, and of course, a dance party. Oh my god the SPEECHES at this wedding I just about died. I cry at every wedding, but the words of their friends just rang so true and heartfelt it was beyond touching.

If you’re considering the Edgewater House for your wedding, hit me up! I’ll be clamoring to get back to that gorgeous venue as often as possible.

Snoqualmie River Backyard Wedding: Rebekah + Seth

For her wedding, Rebekah truly thought of every little detail. It was hosted in her family’s backyard, which borders on the Snoqualmie River in North Bend, WA. The Wenatchee National Forest is almost right out their window, and the sunset over the river was the perfect backdrop to their reception. Rebekah and Seth made their day so personal with touches that are special to them, like having wood-fired pizza for dinner and having their son join them down the aisle in a vintage pram. There were hints of baby’s breath and woodland touches throughout the venue, and Seth gifted his groomsmen with leather-bound flasks. The great Cascades stood tall in the distance for their portrait time, and the sun glittered through the trees. After hours of dancing and spending time with loved ones, they capped off the night with a sparkler exit. From Rebekah’s lace-top dress to ditching her heels to dance at the end of the night, it was a fairytale.

Snohomish, WA Wedding: Janie and Francis

Janie and Francis chose the Lookout Lodge in Snohomish, WA for their big day! Despite being the middle of summer in Washington, all my couples that weekend were in for a wet one. It absolutely poured after their ceremony, but it was nothing that a live band and a tent couldn’t fix!

The Lookout Lodge has all the necessities of a perfect wedding day: suites for both bride and groom, ample reception space for dancing, an outdoor fire pit that’s more 5-star-restaurant than your cousin’s backyard, and a truly stunning ceremony site. We got lucky for Janie and Francis’ ceremony - the rain held off til just after portrait time. Janie’s vows had Francis and the whole crowd laughing, and he surprised her with an upgraded ring at the altar- so fun! For portraits, we waded through the moss and ferns to what seemed like an enchanted forest, just before the storm. Once the rain got going, the party got started under the tent, and Janie and Francis got a few more shots in with a clear umbrella. They capped off the night with sparklers, even though in Washington it doesn’t get dark till about 10:00 at night in the summer, but they glittered all the same!

Pacific Northwest Forest Wedding: Taylor + Nolan

Taylor and Nolan had their intimate forest wedding at Shangri-La on the Green in Enumclaw, WA. This wedding venue is one for the books. Complete with lodge-style reception place, an adorable waterfall, and a reflection pond worthy of Mulan, there’s a reason its called Shangri-La. Its surrounded by dense forest greenery, and its less than two hours outside of Seattle.

So many couples come from outside of Seattle, even from around the world, looking to have their weddings in the dense, ancient forest of the Pacific Northwest. This can pose a challenge to couples who are looking to find a place where they can be surrounded by trees, but not ask their guests to sleep in tents in the mountains. That’s where venues like Shangri-La in Enumclaw come in, with their proximity to the city of Seattle but still feeling miles away from the buzz of downtown and the traffic. Enumclaw and the surrounding areas are perfect for maintaining that intimate rainforest feeling, and accommodating all of your wedding guests as well.

Taylor and Nolan’s day was so intimate; tucked away in the forest and surrounded by only their closest family and friends for their ceremony. After getting ready in the lodge at Shangri-La, they did their first look at the reflection pond, where they could share the most intimate moment as just the two of them. They said their vows at the base of the waterfall, and headed back to the lodge to dance, cut the cake, and finish off the night with a s'more party!

These gorgeous shots were taken by my amazing associate, BreeAnna Lasher. You can see more of her work at https://elevenelevenfilms.squarespace.com!

Springtime Romance Wedding

Back in October, I was able to partner with the amazingly talented design and planning company, Juliet + Lou, on this sunny dahlia farm styled shoot. Even though it was already autumn, the dahlias were still so radiant, and it just screams spring to me. Now that spring has officially sprung in Seattle, I thought it would be the perfect time to share :)

Working with this amazing group of women was truly a dream. If you're getting ready for a Seattle-area wedding or elopement, do not hesitate to contact these ladies:

Danielle of Dandy Flower Co. grows the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen, and is a 425 rising star to boot! Not only did she and I both grow up in Maple Valley, but so did the Juliet and Lou team, Hannah and Elsa! It was so great to find ourselves in our own backyard, doing what we love, and each actively pursuing our dreams as business owners.

Georgina + Dylan: Swiftwater Cellars Winery Wedding

Like Dylan, I met Georgina at WSU. She is absolutely a fun-loving, caring, sincere, encouraging individual. It's so easy to see all the qualities in her that Dylan fell in love with. Also, with both of them being coug fans, there was no way this wedding wasn't going to be a blast. Swiftwater Cellars in Cle Elum, Washington, was the perfect place to bring their friends and family from all over the world to start the celebration.

Georgina and Dylan each got ready surrounded by friends in next door "cabins" (these aren't your typical Girl Scout cabins), near Swiftwater. Scout the dog was front and center for the process. After a romantic first look overlooking the Cle Elum river at Suncadia, we headed back to the winery for the ceremony. Their vows were full of both laughter and tears, and they created their own blended rosé to symbolize their union.

Their reception was full of touches that were so personal to them. And of course, being cougar football game night, the game was projected right next to the bar to celebrate each touchdown (and you know we won!) The dance party was absolutely wild, and Georgina's dad lead the way with some killer moves. Cougs know how to party, but these two took it to the next level. These two have so much love not only for each other, but for their family and friends coming together. Their wedding really set the stage for some amazing adventures to come.

Heidi + Travis: Rustic Cle Elum Wedding

After two amazing engagement sessions, (at Discovery Park and Artists' Point), Travis and Heidi's wedding had a lot to live up to. Man, did they blow it out of the water. Their wedding at the Cattle Barn in Cle Elum, Washington, was equal parts rustic, classic, and elegant. The antique farmhouse and huge indoor barn are nestled in the foothills of the cascades, surrounded by forests and tall fields. We thought we might be cutting in close, since wildfires had blown through a week prior, but the smoky haze drifted away as we pulled in and we were left with a clear, golden day.

This wedding was full of gorgeous seasonal florals and greenery, but the sincerity and romance of Heidi and Travis' love still outshone the delicate and thoughtful decor. Heidi and Travis are true adventure seekers, and their passion for exploring was reflected in every detail. The speeches at dinner told stories of whitewater rafting, igloo building, and hiking, and the authentic Mexican meal was complemented perfectly by a mason-jar margarita bar!

When planning your wedding, don't forget to think outside the box.  Not everyone would travel hours outside the Greater Seattle Area to host an event in a barn in the middle of cattle fields, but Heidi and Travis knew it was just the place to bring their friends and family to party in the late September sun. The beauty of the Pacific Northwest is that we have the opportunity to drive only a few hours in direction and be in the heart of the forest, the mountains, or amber fields like Heidi and Travis did. As they danced the night away, the stars were thousands of times brighter than they would have been back in the Seattle area.

These two have many adventures ahead of them. I can't wait to see where the future will take them.

Ali + Alex: Rock Creek Gardens Wedding

Ali and Alex had a vision for their wedding that was totally them: 1920s glam. From Ali's art-deco inspired dress to their vintage style half moon photo booth, the entire day was a fabulous affair.

I met Ali more than 10 years ago when we were both in high school drama club. She was a true leader of our rag-tag crew, and inspired us all to shine both onstage and off. When she and Alex and I met last year ago to plot an enchanted forest engagement, I knew we were in for an adventure. We hit up a waterfall, and Ali rocked a yellow dress straight out of a fairytale. But their wedding was even better.

Their wedding day in July was searingly bright, located at Rock Creek Gardens in the South Puget Sound area. Ali's delicate feather hair clip and her golden shoes were the perfect details to start the day off. After a first look more romantic than any you'll see, the bridesmaids gathered their bouquets and the groomsmen lined up for an elegant ceremony filled with meaningful vows and smiles between tears.

Ali and Alex surprised their guests with a choreographed waltz straight out of the Great Gatsby, and Ali and her dad broke into a dance that was more fun than anyone expected. The wedding guests were treated to a taco bar, and a three-tiered wedding cake that matched the vintage photo booth. As the sun went down, Ali, Alex and I snuck away for a few twilight pictures under twinkling lights, then headed back to the tent to dance the night away.

Kaila + Josh: Downtown Tacoma Wedding at Washington State History Museum

Kaila and Josh got married in downtown Tacoma, WA at the Washington State History Museum. I had the opportunity to take their engagement pictures last spring, only blocks from where their ceremony would be this summer. We met at a brewery on a drizzly day, and enjoyed all the cloudy vibes Tacoma had to offer. See the whole session here.

Kaila and Josh's wedding day was just the opposite, with bright sun followed by a gorgeous sunset. Their venue, Washington State History Museum, was decked out in black and gold details. We wandered down through the Chihuly Bridge of Glass toward the Port of Tacoma. Kaila rocked the most amazing tiered Maggie Sottero dress.

Kaila and Josh's wedding ceremony was super family-oriented and so uniquely them. Kaila's dad even officiated! Washington State History Museum was an amazing venue to hold their event, and Kaila looked like a dream as she came down the terraced ceremony site. The whole scene was elegant and romantic as Josh and Kaila said their vows, with dozens of laughs along the way.

After the reception, we snuck out for some golden hour portraits on the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. With the cars rushing below, it was every wedding photographer's dream as the sun dipped lower in the sky. We headed back for some dancing, a bouquet toss, and a party that only Josh and Kaila could throw.

Read Kaila's testimony below:

By far the best! She did our engagement shoot as well as our recent wedding and we couldn't have been happier. She is professional, fun, and knows what she is doing! We loved our engagement photos and can't wait for our wedding photos. She will definitely be photographing all the important moments in our life together!

Hannah + Josh: Waterfront North Seattle Wedding

I met Hannah years ago when we both worked at a school in Queen Anne. We quickly became work BFFs and I honestly couldn't have survived even half as long as I did without her. When she and Josh started dating, she had a look in her eye where you just knew this was it. The big one. He proposed a few years later at Elliot Bay Book Company, because they are the perfect Seattle couple. You can see their engagement session, also at Elliot Bay Book Company (and some other rainy-day haunts), here.

When Hannah and Josh asked me to be the photographer for their waterfront wedding in North Seattle, I couldn't have been more excited. Hannah is crafty as all hell and brought her talents to the table. She designed all of her own florals! Total DIY goddess. The bouquets were all white, local florals highlighted by fresh eucalyptus. How great are her mismatched bridesmaids' dresses? Each bridesmaid was able to show off their personality, but still reflect Hannah's dreamy vision for her wedding day. Their outdoor wedding venue overlooked the gorgeous Puget Sound, which was sunny and bright the whole day through. I felt like I was photographer for Ariel and Prince Eric, looking out at the glittering water.

Not only was Hannah the most beautiful bride, seeing her and Josh's connection throughout their wedding day was nothing short of heartwarming. They care so deeply about each other, and it truly showed in their photographs. Getting to witness their wedding not only as their photographer, but as their friend, was a highlight of my year.

Side note, Hannah bakes the bombest (yes I made up that word) cakes and pies ever. Check out her delicious work here.

Here's what Hannah had to say about her experience:

Lindsey is an amazingly talented photographer and I would not have chosen anyone else to shoot my wedding day photos! The day-of can be extremely stressful, but Lindsey was one of our greatest assets because she helped everything run smoothly and efficiently. Her fun-loving personality made everyone feel at ease; she is a joy to work with! Her creativity and ability to keep large groups of people organized and on time was a huge help. Lindsey captured every special moment, and our guests raved about how wonderful she was. For any brides who are looking for stunning wedding photography plus a great person to work with, I highly recommend Lindsey!

Tia + Justin: Hurricane Ridge Elopement

Remember BreeAnna from my last blog post? Pretty soon after meeting we decided we needed to get together for a styled shoot. I remembered my former co-worker Justin and his fiancé Tia and a lightbulb appeared above my head. Armed with Pike Place Market flowers and makeup by Yoana Clarke, we hit the road to Hurricane Ridge for some dusk elopement images that were thick with PNW love.

Also, surprise! Justin's adorable daughter Milli tagged along as the cutest photo assistant ever. Had to get a few shots of her cuteness in there too. She was so excited to "go to the mountain!"

PS: This is one creative lil family. Justin is a music artist and can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/justinhalecollection. Tia is a visual artist and can be seen at Instagram.com/oh_hey_tia.

Laura + David: Olympic Peninsula Wedding

The first word that comes to mind when describing Laura and David's wedding: inspirational. Not only was their location breathtaking, but their love itself makes you believe in fairytales. These two have a love for each other that you usually only read about. Surrounded by friends, family, and hundreds of old-growth fir trees, Laura and David said I do at a wedding that was perfectly, inspirationally them.

Cheers to two beautiful souls, I can't wait to see what the future holds for you.
