Fort Steilacoom Engagement Session: Ellen + Brannon

I got to meet up with these two in one of my favorite spots in the Puget Sound area - Fort Steilacoom near Tacoma, WA. This location, you guys. Just golden fields all over the damn place! Golden hour magic times 1,000. And of course a feature that will put a location on my favorites list right away: dogs/puppies everywhere. Ellen and Brannon mentioned that this was a favorite spot of theirs because they love taking their dogs here too! They’re headed down to Mendocino to get married next spring, and its sure to be a stunner!

We Love You Hershey: Rylee + Andrew

So, a bit of a sad story, but one we can celebrate too. Rylee and I had been in touch about potentially doing a session for her and her boyfriend, Andrew - they’ve been together for 5 years! But when her precious chocolate lab, Hershey, was diagnosed with cancer, we knew it was time to capture some memories ASAP. These two had an amazing 12 years of friendship - wow I’m getting choked up just writing this. Pets are so special you guys. And Andrew and Rylee are pretty special too :)

Fisherman's Terminal Engagement Session: Lindsay + Cameron

The last time I saw Lindsay, we were doing her graduation photos to celebrate her finishing her degree at UW! Almost 5 years later, she’s on a whole new adventure, getting married! Its so fun for me to see all the fun milestones my clients go through, and I get to document! Lindsay and Cameron wanted something quintessentially Seattle, and Fishermans Terminal + a stop at Discovery Park was just the ticket. We had some awesome light and almost no rain, and the connection between these two was fire! Can’t wait to get them in front of my lens again next spring for their wedding!

Rattlesnake Ledge Engagement Session: Rachel + Anthony

As you can tell, I live in the PNW. Born and bred, 28 years. I’ve been a photographer for 6. I have never. Ever. In my LIFE - had a session with rain like this. You would think after all these years rolling around in soggy old Seattle I would have seen it all. I shit you not my shoes took a WEEK to dry. Here’s my question though - what dark magic is Rachel using?? She’s been hiking for hours in a torrential downpour and still looks flawless in these pics? I NEED THE SECRET.

Diablo Lake Engagement Session: Brittany + Steve

I’ve been dying to get these two in front of my camera for years, so when Steve finally popped the question this fall, I knew we had to plan something big. One of the most stunning viewpoints in Washington, Diablo Lake, located up in the North Cascades, fit the bill perfectly. Diablo lake is surrounded by Ross Lake on one side and Gorge Lake on the other, all along the Skagit River. Nestled in the depths of North Cascades National Park, it has an eerie teal tint in the summer. Instead, we beat the snow and got the most perfect, foggy clouds. Brittany and Steve’s love and smiles lit up the whole park. These two are just about the most caring, generous pair you could imagine, and their whole session, even the three hour drive each way, was a blast!

Hood Canal Engagement Session: Dillon + Bekkah

When Bekka and Dillon started planning their engagement session, they knew their parents property near the Hood Canal might be the perfect place. After taking a look at several options around the PNW, we decided that there’s no place like home. We got to explore forests and beaches, and even had to do a little Indiana-jonesing to get onto a sunken dock for the perfect morning light. One of the reasons I just love areas near the Olympic Peninsula like this is because of the awesome variety there is. No two beaches look the same, but they’re usually near mountains, forests, and sometimes even waterfalls! This little part of the earth featured the most enchanted looking trails. Can’t wait for these two to tie the knot at Mountain Spring Lodge this summer!

North Cascades Adventure Engagement: Erica + Claude

Ok buckle up ya’ll cause I could only narrow this session down to 30 blog images. These two are just too precious to my little heart and I can’t wait for their big day this summer in Wenatchee.

I have known Erica since we were five years old. She and her family are a part of mine. From dressing up and sleepovers to forts in the woods to taping her sister into two pillow-filled laundry baskets and throwing her down the stairs (normal children). Hundreds of hours of Girl Scouts followed by coug life at WSU, dads weekends with our wild fathers - a long way from "trying” Wild Turkey bourbon (our dads saying yeah stick your finger in there kids! Tasted like turpentine to us) and chatting on AIM. We even had a duo-control-system going for our favorite rocket ship computer game, complimented perfectly by chocolate milk, root beer, and 10,000 cookies. Probably a good 50% of my total memories involve this amazing woman.

When Claude stepped into the picture with his chest-length hair and easy going attitude, at first we were like ok..????? And within moments we were like OKAY!!! Together they are the perfect balance of fun and chill, adventurous and creative, free-wheeling and accomplished. Claude has since cut his hair, they’ve adopted the adorable Lily and Louie (German Shepherd and Cat, respectively), and started a life all their own. My dad is officiating their wedding this summer. Time to get ordained!!

We ventured up to the Mount Baker National Forest at sunset to get some golden shots of them doing what they do best, adventuring. These two have a lifetime of adventures ahead, and it truly feels like the beginning of a new era. Love you both.

Joshua Tree Engagement: Amber + Scott

Finally blogging one of my favorite sessions of the year! This was Memorial Day Weekend in Joshua Tree State Park, just outside of Palm Springs. Joshua Tree has become a huge destination for photography, and you can see why. This Joshua Tree blog post is about to be twice as long as any other blog post, images wise.

Also, spoilers, Amber and Scott aren’t actually engaged yet. I have no idea how we’re actually going to top Joshua Tree when Scott buys the ring.

Since I usually am shooting up in the Pacific Northwest, getting to shoot in somewhere as drastically different as Joshua Tree was like a breath of fresh air (as if one could ever find a fresher breath of air than one from the PNW, but you get the idea). The landscape just provided so many visually interesting options. Plus Amber and Scott are INSANELY photogenic. Pretty sure I could sell these pictures to a perfume company. How does “Desert” sound for the brand? Too on the nose?

I also had about the dumbest moment while driving in. I said “these trees are so interesting, I wonder what kind they are!” Amber goes “…they’re Joshua Trees….” like OKAY Lindsey good normal brain.

Okay all you Palm Springs/Los Angeles/Southern California brides! You better get at me cause I am DYING to go back to this golden paradise!
